Willow Tea Room,
217 Sauchiehall Street,
1903,
Charles Rennie Mackintosh.
Originally designed in 1903 for Kate Cranston, the entrance door of the Willow Tea Rooms now serves the jeweller who has taken over the ground floor.
The exterior of the Willow Tea Room at 217 Sauchiehall Street still reflects the original design and style of Charles Rennie Mackintosh.
The current tearoom, located above the jewellery shop, was re-opened in 1985 after extensive restoration of Mackintosh's original designs by Geffrey Wimpenny.
The Tearoom decoration is based upon the theme of willows (Sauchiehall meaning the 'meadow of the willow trees') .
Mackintosh and his wife Margaret designed every detail of the decor from the furniture to the smallest fittings such as light shades. "
