The Tron Kirk takes its name from the tron, a public weighing beam which used to be housed in the steeple.
The original church was founded in 1484 as the church of St Mary and St Anne. A fire in 1793 destroyed all but the steeple after which the church was reconstructed between 1793 and 1794.
The interior was converted to a theatre by McGurn, Logan and Young in 1981.
Recent work by Robert Matthew Johnson Marshal and partners have added a new box-office, bar and cafe at ground level with provision for a board room and meeting room above.
The box-office sits against the tower with a solid glass curtain wall separating the new construction from Adam's church. Through the glass can be seen the wall and gateway from J.J. Brunet's courtyard of 1899.
By using natural materials and by applying the same material to different surfaces the designers have achieved on interior of elegant modernism.
The counter, visible here, is manufactured from powder coated red aluminium and appears to float in space."
