St Vincent Street Free Church,
265 St Vincent Street,
1858-1859
Alexander Thomson.

Designed by Alexander 'Greek' Thomson in 1858-9 for the United Presbyterians.

Located at the corner of St Vincent Street and Pitt Street, the church tower, which is decorated in Egyptian, Graeco-Roman, and perhaps even Indian motifs, can be seen all the way from George Square.

This is a view of the church Auditorium. The organ screen was designed by Watson and Salmond to match Thomson's interior.

View of the gallery showing the clerestorey pilastrade below the timber roof.

The interior is colourfully decorated as shown by the polychromatic Grecian frieze below the clerestorey and also around the front of the balcony.

The timber roof with Grecian detail.

Cast iron pillars support the balcony before continuing upwards to the roof. At each junction the capital of the pillar is ornately decorated.

This is a detail of the pillar supporting the balcony and, shown here, the top of the pillar supporting the roof."
