Prince's Square,
Buchanan Street,
1842, 1986-7,
John Baird,
Hugh Martin and Partners

First built in 1842 by John Baird I, the original Prince's Square was an old fashioned court of business chambers with a stable and coach-house at the centre

The stable was demolished and the open courtyard given a roof between 1986 and1987.

Hugh Martin and Partners designed the galleries which are now home to an up-market shopping centre.

Internally the square rises over four stories and is formed by an arched steel and glass structure.

Some of the original courtyard elevations are still visible among the escalators linking floor levels.

Ironwork on the main staircase, forming an ornate balustrade, designed by Alan Dawson and made by Charles Henshaw. "
