Fairfield Yard,
1030-48 Govan Road,
1889-1891,
John Keppie.

Built by John Keppie, of Honeyman and Keppie, between 1889-1891, Fairfield Yard used to be Govan Shipbuilders Ltd before becoming Kvaerner Ltd.

The red sandstone building is long and low providing an impressive front to the shipyards that lie behind. The first floor in both wings used to be taken up by the drawing offices hence the almost unbroken row of windows.

In the centre stands the main entrance, flanked on either side by statues of an engineer and a shipwright.

The boardroom is a well lit space with windows on three sides. The walls are panelled in dark wood with decorative strapwork that is echoed in the plaster mouldings on the ceiling."
