Brunswick Hotel,
106-108 Brunswick Street,
Elder and Cannon
1995.
The Brunswick Hotel was designed in 1995 by Elder and Cannon architects with interior designers, Graven Images.
The hotel moves away from traditional hotel design by concentrating on the priority given to visual impact.
Brunswick Street is in a conservation area at the centre of Glasgow's Merchant City, an area that is the subject of recent regeneration.
This modern building occupies a narrow site surrounded by its Victorian neighbours.
The building has a deep plan due its restricted frontage and rises over eight stories towards a copper clad, curved roof.
Reception, public cafe-bar and restaurant are all at ground floor and basement level which is designed as one large volume behind a glass wall extending the width of the facade.
Unlike traditional hotel decor the Brunswick stands apart due to its combination of bold shades of primary colours and thoughtful use of natural materials."
