Activity
8: The "Golden Ratio" 2
In Activity 7 you drew a Golden Rectangle, cut it out and then used it to
make another Golden Rectangle.
In this Activity you are going to continue this process further to make a
series of spiralling Golden rectangles.
Start as you did on the last Activity and draw a Golden Rectangle, 34cm by
21cm on a piece of paper and cut it out.
Now fold over one corner to the other side to make a square. Cut off this
square.
You are now left with another Golden Rectangle. Measure its length and width
and enter its sizes on the table below.
Keep repeating this process till you get to the smallest rectangle you can
handle.
Work out the length divided by the breadth for each one – a calculator
will help.

The ratio, length divided by width should be approximately the same for each
Golden Rectangle and should be about 1.62.
This important ratio is called the Golden Ratio.
