Activity 28: Problems and Puzzles 1

Nearly all buildings have steps or stairs either inside or outside or both.

This is a view of the front of the house which shows the steps at the front door. The vertical part of each step is called the riser and the horizontal part the tread.

How many steps are there at the front door?

On these steps, how many risers and how many treads are there?

The treads are 25cm in depth and each riser is 15 cm high.

What is the total height of the steps?

If I used slabs of stone to make the steps, what total length of slabbing would be needed to do this? (each step is made out of one large slab)
