Activity 22: PlansWhen an architect or a designer is designing a building like Holmwood House, one of the first things he or she has to do is to draw plans of the buildings. This is so that they can try to see what the building's proportions will be like and also to give detail to the builders.

To do this properly these plans have to be drawn to scale.

Holmwood House Timeline

This will take you to a page where there are two plans shown, one of the Ground floor of the house and one of the Upper floor. These drawings are scale drawings of these two floors. Here is part of the Upper floor plan: You will need to download and print this out to work on the plan.

Click HERE to download the plan.

If this is drawn to a scale of 1cm = 10 m can you say what would be the actual size of the lines marked?

a = d =
b = e =
c = f =

The Parlour on the Ground floor is 15m long and 7 m wide and the circular bay has a diameter of 5m.

Draw this to a suitable scale to fit onto a sheet of A4 paper.
