Activity 21: Maps

In Activity 20 you used co-ordinates to determine the position of something on a plan.
We use the same technique for locating places on maps.

Click HERE to bring up the buildings that 'Greek' Thomson designed or go to Alexander 'Greek' Thomson, The Buildings of Alexander Thomson.

Select the following buildings that are located in Glasgow City centre area, i.e.

Walmer Crescent

Grecian Buildings

Queens Park Terrace

Oakfield Avenue

St Vincent Street Church

Egyptian Halls

West Nile Street

Use a Glasgow City Centre map or download from HERE [ link to www.glasgowguide.co.uk/maps.html ] the Glasgow City Guide Street map for the city centre and find the grid references for each of the above buildings. Write these co-ordinates beside each building.

If you can get a full street map of Glasgow, you would be able to locate the references for the other Glasgow buildings.

You could also search for the other addresses on www.multimap.com

Perhaps if you live in or are visiting Glasgow you could try to see some of these buildings for yourself.
